On Thursday 24 September, WWF-Australia and a team of independent marine ecologists left Darwin on a chartered research expedition to survey the damage. Dr Gilly Llewellyn, WWF-Australia’s Conservation Director led the team of researchers who assessed the number of wildlife found in the marine region, and their condition. “We need to shatter the myth that an oil spill only affects marine wildlife when it washes up on our beaches,” said Dr Gilly Llewellyn.
