Recycle your CDs

Old CDs can become more than "coasters"

TechEBlog has posted Top 5 most creative uses for old CDs which highlights some pretty clever ideas for recycling unused or damaged CDs. [via EcoGeek]

I’ve seen old CDs turned into clocks and artworks, among other things, but those have got to take the cake!

Perhaps they’re a little on the crazy side, but they certainly shows how to turn recycling from a chore into something creative and fun!

Does anyone have any other fun ideas for how to recycle old CDs?

A great way to recycle your old cds - find someone who wants it!

It also means that you wont be wasting resources and money buying a new cd….

A fantastic Idea that not only recycles CD’s, but also DVDs, and videogames. And the site will be expanding shortly to include books, clothing, and even furniture

I think this is a great idea. Old CDs, DVD,s, etc. are so wasterful but these were really good examples of things you can do with them. I really like the CD light.

What are CDs made of? Are they recyclable like HDPE or PET? Why dont the CD makers use recyclable plastics if not?

    Hi Roberto.

I’m not able to completely confirm this, but it appears CDs are recyclable, but not through standard recycling facilities.

This article explains that CDs are made up of multiple layers, and I suspect that’s why they need to be treated differently to ordinary plastics.

You could try www.discstation.com.au, they have a CD recycling program called ECODISC, and they will accept all unwanted CDs and DVDs.
